What an Owner’s Engineer Really Does on a Project
Description
If you’re working on a big energy project, having an owners engineer on board can save you a ton of headaches. They’re basically your second set of eyes — checking if your contractors are doing things right, catching issues early, and keeping the design and build process grounded in reality.
They help with POI interconnection engineering support, review drawings, flag risky shortcuts, and track costs. If you’re dealing with utility scale solar farms, wind farms, or battery storage, this role becomes even more important.
You’ll also see them deep in substation design, power system studies, and MEP engineering work. And yep, they stay on top of things like NERC compliance — including NERC Alert Level 3 IBR.
In short? They’re not running the job. But they are making sure no one runs it off the rails.
